Ritual Instead of Routine: How to Reclaim The Everyday

For your slow living journey, it is important that you find your daily habits - lighting a candle, tying a scarf, opening a diary - enjoyable and not mundane.

A day that needs more hours

Many of us feel this every day. With so many tasks for ourselves in living with our partner and family, at work and for the many things we do after work, there is always a lack of time.

No matter how hard we try, there is often hardly any time for ourselves. The hectic pace of everyday life means that we often overlook the fact that we should plan much more time for ourselves in order to find peace and a simple life.

The Power of Routine

Many processes are repeated and a routine is established. This is also important, because in life we need recurring or firmly scheduled activities and appointments as so-called anchor functions in our daily routine so that we don't get lost. Daily planning is particularly important for a family, but even as a single person you will have more success if you plan your week better.

The difficult thing is that many activities become routine at some point and many things are simply seen as normal and everyday and we no longer pay attention to how important these things actually are for us.

How can you escape this routine and get back to the things that are important to you?

Your Time for Your Daily Rituals

Especially when you have a lot to do, it is important to practice mindfulness in order to ground yourself, escape from everyday stress and do something for yourself and your health.

Mindfulness practice sounds very complex at first, but it's not. By establishing a daily ritual, for example in the morning, you will become more mindful. Again, these are small steps towards change that make a big difference.

A nice ritual, for example, is to get up early in the morning and sit down with a good cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the first moments of the day just for yourself. You can light a nice candle, write something in your diary or, if you have the opportunity, sit outside on your veranda or balcony.

There is also a nice evening ritual in which you sit down in the evening, completely in peace without your cell phone and without distractions. In the evening, think about what you have achieved during the day and what you would like to achieve the next day, take a deep breath and reflect on how you are doing. Write in your diary what you noticed that day and what things you would like to change.

How Can You Use These Rituals to Reclaim Your Everyday Life?

With such wonderful rituals, you can learn to become more mindful and see things more clearly again. You are doing something good for yourself as you calm down.

By practicing mindful rituals, wich are not routines, you will learn how important a slow, sustainable and balanced life is. These rituals are part of your daily wellness serenity, which will lead to slow living.

Through recurring rituals, you will notice what is important to you in everyday life and you will regain your everyday life and not let stress get the better of you.
